China's foreign and security policy; digital technology; artificial intelligence; the Belt and Road Initiative; the Digital Silk Road; China-Africa relations; South-South cooperation; China-US relations; military balance of power.

Background

​I am a Senior Researcher at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), where I work on China's foreign policy; artificial intelligence as a frontier of US-China competition; the ethics of algorithms; dual-use technology; the Digital Silk Road; and the security assistance provided to countries in Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. My broader research interests include China’s engagement in Africa and Asia, the Belt and Road Initiative, and South-South cooperation. Prior to joining PRIO, I was the editor of Millennium: Journal of International Studies, Vol. 45, and I worked as a consultant at the UNESCAP in Bangkok, where I led a project on sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. I have a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a MA in Chinese Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies.
