Identity Politics in North Cyprus

Jan 2018 - Dec 2019

Over the past decade, scholarly interest has grown both in the study of Turkish nationals who settled in the north of Cyprus after 1974, and in the politics of Turkish Cypriot identity. Although scholars always recognize that identity shifts in the Turkish Cypriot community have been influenced by the presence of Turkish nationals in the island, no previous study has sought to understand the dialogical and chronological trajectory of these changes. The report will give a complex picture of the various groups, aspirations, identity shifts, and political dynamics that have shaped the demographic and political landscape of the north over the past four decades.
