Women, Peace and Security in Post-Conflict Settings

Led by Olga Demetriou
Jan 2016 - Dec 2018

This project networks with women peace activists in countries of the SE European region which have been mired by conflict and are either transitioning to peace or building a post-conflict society. Such countries include Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Egypt, Lebanon, Serbia, Jordan, Kosovo, Greece and Turkey. In view of the changing dynamics in the region, be they in the form of economic crises, migration, or conflict, it is urgent to exchange information on women’s multiple exclusions from the political sphere at these critical moment and to coordinate actions to redress them. The project is carried out in collaboration with the Gender Advisory Team. In 2016, the project culminated in an international conference in which women from Syria, Libya, and Egypt participated and where feminist law scholar Fionualla Ni Aolain gave a keynote address on the post-1325 landscape. This project continues to develop as a leading activity of the Centre in 2017.
