Background
Birkvad is currently working on the FINEX - Financial Exclusion, Islamic Finance and housing in the Nordic Countries project. Here, Birkvad analyses the gendered aspects of Islamic economics and finance among Muslim women in the Oslo region.
She has worked on the SOURCE Societal Security project, researching the relationship between ethics and extremism.
Birkvad has conducted coding and interview analysis for the Active Citizenship in Culturally and Religiously Diverse Societies (ACT) project.
She has worked on various projects related to South Asia, most prominently Making Women Count for Peace: Gender, Empowerment and Conflict in South Asia and India in the World: Emerging Perspectives on Global Challenges.
In the fall of 2017 Birkvad taught seminars for the undergraduate level course REL2220: Hindu Religion and Politics at the University of Oslo.
She coordinates PRIO's International Summer School.
Ida Roland Birkvad holds a MSc in Comparative Political Thought from SOAS, University of London.
She also holds a BA in Hindi from the University of Oslo and a BA in Comparative Politics from the University of Bergen.
