Background

​Endre Begby is currently an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Simon Fraser University. He was appointed a PRIO Global Fellow in 2014, but has a long standing history with the institute, having worked full time at PRIO from 2000 to 2002 and with several stays as Visiting Researcher since. From 2005 to 2007, he taught at the International Summer School.

Among his publications in political philosophy are “Liberty, Statehood, and Sovereignty: Walzer on Mill on Non-Intervention” (Journal of Military Ethics 2(1), 46-62) and The Ethics of War: Classic and Contemporary Readings (co-edited with Henrik Syse and Greg Reichberg, Blackwell, 2006).

While much of Begby's work remains rooted in normative theory, he tries to use philosophical insights to explore questions that intersect with fields such as developmental economy, governance, and law. His academic background is in philosophy, and he also works on issues in philosophy of mind and language.
