Background

Egil Fossum (1939–2021) was attached to PRIO 1965–71, first as a graduate student and, following the completion of his mag.art. degree in political science in 1967, as a researcher. He had an enduring interest in Latin American affairs, and his thesis was on military coups d'état in that region.

During his time at PRIO and later, he was active in journalism. He served as editor of Klassekampen (1977–79) and later taught journalism at Oslo University College (now OsloMet) and wrote a book about source criticism in journalism (Er det nå så sikkert?, 1991, rev.ed 2008).

An obituary by his former PRIO colleague Per Olav Reinton was published in Khrono 9 August 2021.
