​Welcome to a seminar with Jakkie Cilliers of the Institute of Security Studies in Pretoria, South Africa.

Jakkie Cilliers will provide an overview of expected long-term trends on various dimensions of security and development in Africa. He will touch on the prospects for poverty alleviation, the growth of the middle class, governance and fragility.

Dr Jakkie Cilliers
 is the chairman and founder of the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and head of African Futures and Innovation at the Pretoria office of the ISS.  He is an Extraordinary Professor in the Centre of Human Rights and the Department of Political Sciences, Faculty Humanities at the University of Pretoria and a well-known author and analyst. Dr Cilliers founded the ISS in 1991 and, until 2015, served as its executive director. The ISS is a regional think- and do-tank with offices in Dakar, Addis Ababa, Nairobi and Pretoria. @JakkieCilliers
